Intimacy (Latin) means to make known. Intimacy involves an in-depth knowledge of another by entering. *Intimacy includes knowledge, caring, trust, and commitment. True, covenant based intimacy results in a spirit to spirit, soul to soul encounter unlike any other. Marital, sexual intercourse provides a unique intimate encounter. Because Mankind was created with a spirit, Mankind can experience intimacy with God. Covenant marriage is a reflection of this intimacy.
God designed male and female so husband and wife could experience 3 dimensional intimacy (spirit-soul- body). Marriage is the only relationship whereby a man and woman can legally share their total self with each other. The sharing of the total self (spirit-soul-body) is an important aspect of marital intimacy. True, covenant based intimacy results in a spirit to spirit, soul to soul encounter unlike any other.
WHY WE ALL DESIRE INTIMACY
Gen. 2:7
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Gen. 2:22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
After Adam was formed, God placed a portion of His Spirit within Adam. This action established a powerful, spiritual bond between Adam and God. When Woman was formed, we see a similar pattern. A portion of Adam’s body was placed within Woman (or used to form Woman). This action established a powerful, physical bond (attraction) between Adam and his wife (man and woman). As a result of this physical bond, Man seeks to be joined with that part of himself which is now in Woman. I call this the Fragmentation theory. Fragmentation theory explains how Godly Soul Ties (GSTs) between husband and wife are activated and formed. Because of fragmentation, men and women desire physical and emotional intimacy with each other.
